Mrs. Titus's Cake

Ingredients
- Cake:
- 2 oz. bitter chocolate
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup flower, sifted
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 cup sour milk or hot water
- Frosting:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 1/2 tbsp. cocoa
- vanilla
Directions
- Cake: Melt chocolate and butter together
- Add 1/2 cup boiling water.
- Remove from heat, stirring vigorously.
- Add beaten egg, sugar, flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Add 1/4 cup sour milk or water.
- Bake at 350. Let cake cool.
- Frosting: Mix all icing ingredients together over flame until it begins to boil.
- Then boil exactly one minute, without stirring.
- Remove from heat and beat until thick enough to spread.
- Once it starts to thicken, pour over cake.
