Ingredients

  • Cake:
    • 2 oz. bitter chocolate
    • 3 Tbsp. butter
    • 1/2 cup boiling water
    • 1 egg, beaten
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 cup flower, sifted
    • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
    • 1 tsp. salt
    • 1/4 cup sour milk or hot water
  • Frosting:
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1/4 cup butter
    • 1/4 cup milk
    • 1 1/2 tbsp. cocoa
    • vanilla

Directions

  1. Cake: Melt chocolate and butter together
  2. Add 1/2 cup boiling water.
  3. Remove from heat, stirring vigorously.
  4. Add beaten egg, sugar, flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Add 1/4 cup sour milk or water.
  6. Bake at 350. Let cake cool.
  7. Frosting: Mix all icing ingredients together over flame until it begins to boil.
  8. Then boil exactly one minute, without stirring.
  9. Remove from heat and beat until thick enough to spread.
  10. Once it starts to thicken, pour over cake.
